From Angels Landing Trail
4/21/2013 & 10/16/2018: I have hiked Angels Landing in Zion National Park twice. The first time was with son Gary in 2013 on our way to backpack the Buckskin Gulch to Lee’s Ferry along the Paria River. The second time was with Marguerite on a road trip that include the Grand Canyon, the Paria area and Zion. Both times were great, and yes, I would do this very hard hike again. It is that spectacular. Sadly, it is a very heavily trafficked trail, but it is still worth the effort and crowds. With Gary, we went all the way to the top – where the angel’s land. With Marguerite, we stopped right before the final 50 yards where you have to use the heavy chains embedded in the rocks as hand rails. It was crowded and the views are just as good from the saddle just before the chains (and there was a restroom there!). I have been to the top and she is happy with looking at the pictures I took from there with Gary 😊.
Marg’s Notes: Sadly, Marg did not take her detailed notes when we did this hike. But she says that it was a pretty view, although she got altitude sickness really bad. I tried to convince her to turn around about halfway up, but she refused. She took a lot of water, ate a whole protein bar! and rested for about ½ hour. After that, she endeavored to persevere and pushed to the top. She was in good shape but has often had a difficult time with altitude. Altitude sickness, by the way, is a serious thing that should not be taken lightly.
Beer 😊
